Crime rates for Walker County, AL

In 2017, the Walker County Sheriff’s Department received 671 criminal complaints involving 587 property offenses and 84 violent crimes. The reported property offenses included 330 larceny thefts, 144 burglaries, and 113 motor vehicle thefts. In the category of violent crimes, there were 65 aggravated assaults, 9 rapes, and 10 robberies.

Between 2001 and 2008, about 14,355 crimes were committed in Walker County. Of those crimes, only 5% of those crimes were violent. Over one-half of the crimes reported during those eight years were related in some way to theft. In 2001, there were less than 600 crimes committed in the county; however, in 2008, over 2,800 crimes were committed.
